Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute – User Group Talk

The NZ Microsoft Cloud & Infrastructure User Group met on 4 March where we hosted a talk by Kodia about Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute.

ExpressRoute is a service that offers a private connection to Azure, with lower latency, increased reliability and speed and is highly secure. With the Australian Azure datacentres now available, New Zealand businesses can provision an ExpressRoute link direct from their internal network, to their cloud-hosted line of business applications and servers. This service is very new to New Zealand, so we welcomed the discussion at the User Group meeting.

ExpressRoute is available in New Zealand from Kordia, Snap and Spark.

Provoke Solutions is getting on board early with ExpressRoute. Group IT Manager Julian Bee talked about how and why they are implementing it, looking to improve performance of their networks and connectivity to Azure hosted systems and services.

This meeting, we webcast and recorded using Lync Online, quite successfully I might add. We hope to do the same for future meetings, for those who can’t make it in person and are in other parts of New Zealand.

Next month…

Our Office 365 tenants are moving! From Singapore and Hong Kong, to Australia. This exciting news was announced last year and Office 365 goes live in Australian datacentres in April, for all new subscriptions in New Zealand.

Our April meetup on Thursday 2 April, we discuss “New Office 365 Datacenter Regions and Existing Customer Moves” and are very lucky to have Microsoft’s Paul Andrew join us in person on a visit from Head Office in Redmond. Office 365 MVP Brendon Ford and I were going to tackle the topic. But when you have the expert and lead on the topic offer to talk about it… well….

We hope to organise a streamed video conference to the Wellington Microsoft office, so those in the Wellington area can virtually attend. We will also try to Lync… ahem… Skype for Business it too.

Join MeetUp to register and attend.
